There is a tilt on the axis of your world when someone very close dies. It’s that horrible moment when you first say, “I don’t know a world where they don’t exist.” Wallow in grief and don’t be afraid to be terribly sad.
But know this: Your grief is entirely your own. Leave everyone else out of it. Once they’ve made their condolences, they are no longer able to support you. Nevertheless, you will mourn for a long while. You need to allow as how everyone else will move on. They don’t mean to be heartless, but recognize they simply don’t have the heart you do…nor will you have the same when someone close to them is gone. Ain’t nothing wrong with any of it. It’s just life. And death. And love, and grief, and family, and friendship. And perspective.
Your Mom-in-law…she’s in good company. And you…you will write about all of it. Happy readers we will all be!
    Sweet dreams.

I am so sorry. My condolences to you and Ian. The death of a mother and mother-in-law is a difficult time to say the least. Please know that your extended writing family is pouring as much love and good vibes as we can to you. You are good people. You deserve good in your life. And hopefully you can find peace and closure for Ian’s Mom soon. LRose makes a good point… Working through grief and heartache can make for some great writing, so please don’t be afraid to turn here for catharsis. We will be here to support you. Blessings.

Stay strong. There are reasons for everything – even if we don’t see them clearly.
