Behind the Name
Posted: March 27, 2016 Filed under: Family, Knowledge, Parenting, Self Improvement | Tags: april, may, name 6 CommentsI finally asked my mother why I was named April. I’ll warn you, it’s not an exciting answer.
She liked the name.
And there were already two Mays in the family.
Pretty boring, right? I think so.
I think only the lucky ones have fascinating stories about how their parents came up with their name.
My husband’s hates his middle name–it’s after a kid his mom used to babysit.
I am named Abigail because my mother came across it while she was reading the Bible. Apparently I was Sarah before that. Apparently the name means “beloved of God”. I am a confirmed and passionate atheist so I can’t say I’m thrilled.
We have a little booklet at work with the meaning of names. You’d be surprised how many are supposed to mean “beloved of God.”
I was named Cheryl because apparently back in the days, one of the actress in Charlie’s Angels is Cheryl Ladd and my mom found it to be a nice name. -.-
I love it!
