Only Goodbye

She only told him that she loved him.

a naked breath
a final gasp

the end is coming soon

a word of wisdom
hand of comfort

the end is coming soon

waiting, watching, lying there
listening for the end

a word comes to her pale, pale lips
another and a third
the ones he wants so much to hear
don’t go without the words

he takes her hand
softness, gentle, light
he kisses her cheek
sunken, sallow, cold

she whispers
i love you

and she goes

Look, a poem! I feel so bad for being all chipper after writing that horribly sad thing.

Seriously though, if you want to read some good poetry, I recommend the feathered sleep. Especially this one.

Back when I was writing fiction I always got the most joyous satisfaction out of writing the most bitter, dark, miserable stuff. πŸ™‚
