It Was a Dark and Stormy Night

Today’s Daily Prompt:

Today you can write about anything, in whatever genre or form, but your post must mention a dark night, your fridge, and tears (of joy or sadness; your call). Feel free to switch one ingredient if you have to (or revisit one from previous trio prompts).

She looked at the clock: the numbers flashed midnight. Another power outage. With a sigh, she threw back the warm covers and swung her feet to the floor.

Her toes wiggled merrily when faced with the cold, their jollity at odds with her mood.

Down the hall, past the bathroom, the guest room, the home office. All silent. The kitchen was empty, of course.

She opened the fridge for a bottle of water, and caught her breath in a sharp gasp when she looked down to see his discarded beer cap trapped between the fridge and the wall.

He hadn’t been gone long enough for it not to hurt.

The dark night greedily welcomed her tears, giving nothing in return.
