Do you really think we’re doomed to repeat mistakes if we don’t remember them?
Yes.
Would it be appropriate to end this post here? There’s this part of me madly screaming to just leave it at that yes up there.
But I won’t.
Yes, we’re doomed. Look at spelling. Everyone has at least one word that absolutely refuses to be spelled correctly. For many, it’s more than one. And no, you can’t call it a ‘trademark,’ it’s a mistake. A mistake that feels so right you can’t remember it to correct it.
I’m an awesome speller, but my word is receive. I always sing the little i before e rhyme, but it doesn’t help. I don’t have any issues with receipt or neighbor or weigh or any of the exceptions, however many there may be.
I don’t even mess up perceive or conceive or–what’s another -ceive word? Anyway, I get those right.
I don’t know what it is about receive that kills me; and I totally just spelled it wrong right there. Jeez. But you only know because I told you.
Sometimes autocorrect isn’t such a bad thing, after all.
What’s your chronic misspelling of doom?
Eligible.
I can spell that, but I do get tongue-tied pronouncing it sometimes!
Mine is “freind,” or friend. Glad to know it’s not just me!
You’re definitely not alone!
