Perfect Moment Monday: Restraint

It’s the last Monday of October, and Perfect Moment Monday again. As Lori says, it’s ‘about noticing a perfect moment rather than creating one. Perfect moments can be momentous or ordinary or somewhere in between.

My perfect moment came last week after Abby was gone. Ian pulled the remaining chocolate pie from the fridge and…

One teeny swipe and a stray finger mark. Abby’s fridge-opening skills are still pretty new, and the only thing she goes in there for is a refill on apple juice, milk, or water. I have to wonder if she stopped because she thought she’d be in trouble or because she was too thirsty to play around anymore. Then again, a taste may have been enough. When she’s not hungry, Abby will refuse everything, even favorites like broccoli or Twizzlers.

Ian was flabbergasted that she dared defile the pie, while I was tickled pink by his reaction and hugely impressed with her two-year-old restraint. Not to mention her deft speed, as the only time she opened the fridge that day was while I was at the kitchen counter, three feet away.

It’s always a bittersweet moment finding a new place Abby left her mark that week after she’s gone, but the pie still puts a smile on my face.

That is some restraint for a two year old – mine would have taken it all! Really sweet perfect moment – I love the photo and that Abby’s favorites are broccoli and Twizzlers!

  2. Heck, *I* would have taken it all! Chocolate pie is my absolute fave.

When she gets older she’ll learn how to sneak pie and cover her tracks, ha ha! Thanks for stopping by my blog. I’m doing NaNoWriMo too! Feel free to add me as a writing buddy (I’m alittlesandy) and keep in touch. We can cheer each other on!

  4. So funny! I love how kids at a very early age know the good stuff.

That is so sweet (literally)! What a great story and perfect moment. I can’t imagine stopping after just a little taste either, but think it is so adorable that your Abby did. That photo also is making me crave some chocolate pie now. Thanks for sharing!

  7. Yea if I had opened that fridge that pie would have been gone! It is so nice when someone you love leaves a little mark that they were there.
